This great ice cream was merchandized in 1972, which is 3 years before I was born, by Morinaga, the greatest sweet manufacturer here in Japan. This is my dad's favorite sweet and he always gets happy when I buy dozen of them when visit them. The ice cream is made of Vanilla ice cream, thin plate chocolate and wafers. The word "Monaca" comes from Japanese sweet made of azuki bean filling sandwiched between two thin crisp wafers made from mochi. The wafers may be shaped like cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums and so on but it is oftenly used for modern style ice cream and Morinaga's Jumbo Monaka is the top selling products in domestic market. There has been several change of its package design as you you see at Morinaga's website, but great quality and beloved fans remains for last 35 years in its history. Price is 100yen(tax not included) and you can purchase it at any major convenience stores(Seven-Eleven, Lawson, Family Mart etc) or super market near you.
